RAJ Foundation was initiated by my late mother, Roseline Ahuruole Jonathan, in our community of Elelenwo, within the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State Nigeria. She regularly gathered widows and orphaned children for prayer sessions and provided them with food items and other supplies.
Observing my mother’s love and care for these women had a profound impact on me. It shaped my view of older women as being in need and deserving of assistance, which influenced my habit of supporting underprivileged girls and women.
Growing up in a predominantly patriarchal community, women and girls were not recognized for their significant achievements. I was taught to do household chores and take care of the home. Many girls in my community prioritized marriage and motherhood over pursuing further opportunities.
Over time, I became increasingly concerned about these societal limitations and the lack of personal responsibility that stemmed from them. I believe that women have immense potential when provided with the right opportunities. Being a woman should be an advantage in my journey, not a hindrance.
My mother was a symbol of hope and resilience, and her remarkable efforts in empowering indigent women through education, skills training, and financial assistance inspired me to establish a nonprofit organization. RAJ Foundation stands as a testament to my mother’s legacy, aiming to amplify the voices of women in Africa and continue her mission of empowerment and support.
At the heart of our mission is the belief that empowered women can transform communities and create a brighter future. Through our innovative programs and unwavering advocacy for women’s rights, we strive to create opportunities that enable women and girls to reach their full potential. Join us on our journey to uplift and empower women across Africa.
This ongoing project focuses on supporting girls’ education. We are currently seeking sponsors and partners to donate essential school supplies such as notebooks, pencils, pens, rulers, scissors, and calculators.
